Eye Movement Processing:
Eye Movement Processing (EMP) is a revolutionary method that taps into your brain's intricate processes and allows you to process and release intense emotions that are deeply stored in your brain’s filing system. By employing a unique combination of guided eye movements and hypnosis, EMP offers a powerful tool for individuals seeking to liberate themselves from overwhelming emotions. Stored emotions like anger, sadness, fear, and other challenging feelings, can accumulate over time and overwhelm our capacity for emotional regulation.
Think of your capacity for emotional regulation like a teapot. Sometimes your teapot is doing fine, and you're releasing and processing emotions quickly enough to keep the pressure from building up. You may "blow off steam" by going to the gym and working out really hard, or going for a run, or talking to a good friend who can empathize with what you're going through. Other times, the stove of life gets turned up too high, too fast, and the pressure in the teapot quickly becomes too much. Naturally, the tea pot starts to "shout" because there's simply too much pressure. For humans, this shows up in the form of poor sleep, angry outbursts, persistent anxiety, panic attacks, lashing out, giving up and letting grades or household responsibilities slip, intrusive thoughts, insomnia, health issues, or the fight, flight, or FREEZE response. ( I.e. Knowing that there are many, many things you “should” be doing, but not having the bandwidth to actually do any of them. Essentially being “frozen” or stalled.) EMP makes it possible to identify, feel, and release large amounts of stored emotion in a short amount of time.
When I had my first session with an EMP facilitator, I was shocked at how much stored emotion was inside of me. I was experiencing non-stop panic attacks, seemingly out of nowhere, for the first time in my life. It was deeply unnerving, and one of the most difficult experiences of my life. In just two sessions, my symptoms were cut in half, and I started sleeping through the night for the first time in months. After 6 sessions, I felt the distinct sense of “coming home to myself.” My body was no longer a terrifying place to be.
So, how does EMP actually work?
Eye Movement Processing uses what we understand about the brain’s REM cycle—a phase during sleep where the mind integrates information. EMP mimics the eye movements of REM sleep, effectively allowing the client to access the subconscious storage system of the mind. Through this access point to the subconscious storage system, clients are able to identify and eradicate limiting beliefs and deeply stored emotions (like shame, fear, and self-doubt) that inhibit personal growth and progress.
While EMP shares similarities with methods like EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and RET (Rapid Eye Technology) it is also unique in its approach. EMP techniques are founded upon the same scientific principles. These forms of Eye Work assist in transitioning dysfunctional (and often traumatic) memories into a coherent personal narrative, which then soothes and neutralizes the nervous system response.
In short, EMP helps to foster healthier adaptive processing of difficult past experiences. The aim is to neutralize the 'triggers' associated with distressing memories. This allows you to retain the memory of an event without experiencing the intense emotional responses tied to it, creating a bridge to emotional liberation.
